Benefits:

Farm of the Free is a local animal sanctuary for chickens, donkeys, cows, goats, and sheep. We’re located 60 miles east of Atlanta in Good Hope, GA, on 10 acres of land. Our mission is to create a space where all living beings feel safe to be who they are. In addition to providing refuge for animals raised for food, founders Greg and Carmen Pope raise awareness about living a peaceful, vegan lifestyle, emphasizing unconditional self-love & personal growth. The Animal Caregiver reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for all aspects of daily animal care. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain experience with farm animals and understand the day-to-day operations of an animal sanctuary.

 

Specifications:

• Part-time, non-exempt position

• 28 hours per week 

• Overtime and Call in are required

• Evening hours & overnight flexibility will be required 

• Occasional travel to assist with emergency animal transport for adoptions & rescues

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Positive/can-do attitude 

• Lovingly providing food and water for the animal residents

• Meticulously clean stalls, sheds, chicken coops, waterers, feeders, etc. 

• Administer basic veterinary treatment plans by following verbal and written directions

• Participate in hoof trimming, sheep shearing, farrier visits, and other similar appointments, taking animals to veterinary appointments

• Completing errands to pick up food, produce, and supplies

• Representing Farm of the Free at festivals, conferences, etc., which includes travel

• Helping to maintain buildings and fences

• Helping to preserve grounds and pastures

• Training and manage volunteers

• Facilitating tours and helping with events 

• Advocating for veganism

• Assisting in maintaining records for each animal as well as daily records

• Minimal administrative duties such as putting together memberships packages, data entry, organizing

 

Qualifications:

• Valid Georgia Driver’s License REQUIRED

• Previous animal care experience preferred (preferably farmed animals)

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

• Calm under pressure and brave amongst all species, including biting/stinging insects, rodents, reptiles, etc.

• Ability to fix, maintain and sometimes build simple things

• Ability to practice self-sufficient task prioritization, time management and multitasking

• Ability to understand and precisely follow oral and written directions

• Ability to problem solve as unknown situations arise

• Able to work outside in every weather extreme

• Moves equipment or animals weighing 50 Lbs.

• Strong interest in promoting veganism and animal rights, specifically farmed animals
