Tours and Volunteer Days at the Sanctuary

Farm of the Free is open to the public by appointment, and on volunteer days.

*Due to coronavirus and for the safety of you, our residents, please make us aware if you are having symptoms or if you have been around anyone who's tested positive and we can easily reschedule. Please also be aware that you might be indoors and outdoors, and social distancing is not always possible.

Private Tours are by appointment only and other public events will be announced on our webpage and on social media. Some events may include; presentation days, potluck days, cooking classes, meditation / yoga classes, and volunteer days.  We would love for you to visit one of our future events or schedule a private tour.

If you would like to become a volunteer caregiver or schedule a private tour, please email us at:

farmofthefree@gmail.com or text Carmen at: 770-876-7927

Private Tours will consist of:

  • A guided tour of the sanctuary for 2 hours with your family or friends.

  • An opportunity to view the rescued animals, including our resident chickens, goats, sheep, cows, pig, and donkeys. *Please note that we cannot guarantee interaction with the residents; it is up to them whether they decide to participate. Please understand that we will not feed the residents treats on tour, as they are on strict diets for their health.*

  • End the tour with a visit to our gift shop.

  • A suggested donation of $20 per person is greatly appreciated.

Sanctuary rules:

We love to have your volunteer help! But, first, we need to make sure that you are aware of a few things about this sanctuary and give you some information to prepare you for volunteering:

  1. First and foremost, this is a home for our residents. As their caregivers, their comfort, safety, and well-being are our number one priority.

  2. You must sign age-appropriate waivers when you arrive.

  3. No one is guaranteed any interactions with the residents. The sanctuary is not a petting zoo.

  4. If residents aren’t interested, we don’t obligate them to do anything they don’t feel comfortable with unless it’s for their primary care/needs.

  5. If they walk away from you, please do not pursue them. We are in the residents’ homes, respecting their body language.

Recommended supplies:

  • Snacks. Please, no animal products on the premises out of respect for our residents. Let us know if you have any questions about veganism. Please do not bring food of any kind into the animal enclosures for their safety and yours.

  • Bring a water bottle.

  • Wear/bring sunblock just in case.

  • Wear/bring bug spray just in case.

  • Wear clothing you don’t mind messing up, preferably pants, closed-toed shoes, preferably boots.

Here is Carmen Pope’s cell for you to contact the day of the event. We don’t check emails or other forms of communication promptly for last-minute cancellations. (770) 876-7927‬. Text when you arrive & we will get you at the gate.
