Ruby was found wandering alone in the countryside in January 2020, so we scooped her up before she could be harmed by a predator.
She was named by cofounder Carmen’s lifelong best friend, Kristen, and Kristen’s mom, Dianne, in honor of Kristen’s paternal grandmother.
Over the years, Ruby has lived with a few gentle and welcoming chickens, most of whom have now passed. She currently shares her home with Mario and his flock in Enclosure 4, where she is lovingly looked after.
During the day, you can often spot her enjoying life’s simple pleasures, scratching at the ground, pecking for treats, basking in the sun, and dust bathing. At night, she usually roosts close to her pal, Ember, in a fully secure, predator-protected coop.
Thanks to our support, Ruby gets to live the life every chicken deserves, safe, free, and never exploited.
