Iris West

Updated: Mar 24

Iris West is one of six chicken siblings who came to FOTF as chicks in June 2017, accompanied by their late mother, Cluckie. When they were first discovered, they had been wandering around the surrounding area and across the sanctuary grounds without proper shelter or protection from predators like foxes, coyotes, and raccoons. Today, Iris and her remaining family members, brothers Radtkey and Dave, are the longest-residing chickens at FOTF.

She was named by Aiden H. and his sweet family after a key character in The Flash comics.

Iris is a quiet, gentle soul with remarkable inner strength. She most often stays close to her brother, Radtkey, and sometimes spends time with her friendly-natured flock mate, Phoenix. In the safety of her enclosure and in the company of her flock, she enjoys the simple pleasures that bring chickens joy, scratching through the dirt, sunbathing, dust bathing, and freely roaming her surroundings.

One of the most beautiful aspects of sanctuary life is the enduring connection she shares with Radtkey, a lifelong bond that began at birth. Their story is even more powerful knowing they once shared the sanctuary with their gentle mother, Cluckie, and their sweet sister, Beauty, both of whom have since passed. In a world that so often denies animals the chance to remain with their families, this is a rare and precious reminder of what it means to live freely, with love and safety, and to be treated with the dignity they deserve.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, she and her flock get to live their lives in a safe, respectful space where they are valued for who they are, not what they can provide.
