Belinda

Updated: Mar 24

Belinda, a cherished member of her flock, was left at FOTF with her group as baby chicks shortly after Easter in 2022. At that time, the sanctuary wasn’t prepared with predator-proof housing or a coop to accommodate them. We sprang into action and launched a successful fundraiser to meet their needs. While we made preparations, the chicks were lovingly cared for by our dedicated volunteer, Juli, and her mother, Anne, a former FOTF team member.

Belinda was named by Candace A., who took part in our naming fundraiser as one of the first five monthly donors committed to the chicks’ ongoing care.

Since arriving at the sanctuary, Belinda has blossomed beautifully. Once shy, she’s now the top hen in her flock, a confident and independent leader who earns the respect of those around her. She delights in all the joys of a free life: foraging, scratching for snacks, dust bathing, and basking in the sun within her safe, predator-proofed home.

It’s significant to highlight that Belinda and her flock mates have shared every chapter of life together since coming to live at the sanctuary. In a reality where animals are routinely denied family, friends, comfort, and connection, their story stands out as a powerful reminder of what should be possible for all.
